Fibre Artists use every type of fibre known to humankind to create art. It is a very versatile medium. In my own fibre arts group, members work with commercial and hand-dyed fabrics, yarns, rovings, cheesecloth, papers, inks, paint, beads, natural ‘found’ objects, plastics, even animal hair….
About Me
For the last 19 years I have been creating art quilts, many stitched by hand. I find inspiration in the natural world, flora and fauna, rocks, trees, water.
I spent years as a craftsperson
working with coloured porcelain and more years as a social worker. For the last 19 years I have been creating fibre art featuring hand stitching, paint and embroidery. Some of my newer work is machine stitched as well. I find inspiration in the natural world, flora and fauna, rocks, trees, water…..have I left anything out?
Since I retired from full time work…
I have been more focused on my work with fabric. My goal is to improve my craft and find new venues to exhibit and sell my work. I learn from other artists, workshops, fibre art groups, and from my wonderful online quilting groups. Art For Sale
Many of my art quilts are stitched entirely by hand – using raw edge or needle turn applique and embroidery, embellished with paints, inks, paintstiks, gems, sequins, yarns etc. Some of the fabrics are hand-painted with setacolours, watercolour crayons and water soluble pencil crayons. Newer works may be machine stitched or a combination of hand and machine stitching with hand embroidery.
